Ready to lead?
I can usually tell early on who's actually ready to lead.
It has very little to do with talent or track record.
The ready ones carry something with them when they show up. Willingness. Humility. A quiet understanding that they don't know everything, and a real openness to being mentored.
They lead because it feels like a calling, and you can sense that.
Here's what surprised me over the years. I never had to recruit those people hard.
I just kept saying, out loud and often, that continuous learning is the price of leadership here. Motivated people heard that as an open door and walked toward it.
The ones looking for a quick fix heard the same message and stepped back on their own. Their behavior showed it long before their words did.
I stopped naming it directly. The process reveals it, leaving them room to choose differently. Some do. Some don't.
That freed up my energy for the ones who chose the work. And when those leaders grow, something happens around them. Others notice the opportunity, and their own desire to learn wakes up.

So the standard does the sorting, the willing get the investment, and the whole organization feels it.
